The Slope Intercept form of a Line utility provides the slope-intercept form of a line based on the value of two points (x1 , y1 and x2 , y2).

INSTRUCTIONS:  Enter the following:

• (x1) This is the x coordinate of the first point.
• (y1) This is the y coordinate of the first point.
• (x2) This is the x coordinate of the second point.
• (y2) This is the y coordinate of the second point.

Slope Intercept form of a Line: The utility returns a string with the slope-intercept form of the line.

The  Math / Science

The slope intercept form gives the equation of a line, using the slope (m) and a point on the y-axis (b) as follows:

y = mx + b

The algorithm looks for the following special cases:

1. If the two points are the same, no line is formed just a point.
2. If the x components are the same, the slope is infinite, and the line has a constant value equal to the x component.
3. If the y components are the same, the slope is zero, and the line has a constant value equal to the y component.

With the slope and intercept (b) from the slope intercept formula, you can enter any value of x and get the corresponding value of y on the line.
