KurtHeckman.Roof - Shingle bundles

The Shingles for a Roof calculator computes the number of shingle bundles (33.33 ft² each) RoofShinglebundles-illustration.pngis needed to cover the area of a roof (both sides of a gabled roof) based on the length and width of the area covered and the pitch.

INSTRUCTIONS: Choose your preferred units and enter the following:

  • (W) Width of area covered by roof.
  • (L) Length of area covered by roof.
  • (P) Pitch of the roof (choose one)

Shingle Bundles:  The calculator returns the number of bundles of shingles needed to cover the roofs surface.

General Information

This formula is only accurate if the both gables have the same pitch, which puts the ridge in the middle.  Unless the roofing area is very close to being perfectly divisible by 33.33 feet squared (the area of a standard bundle of shingles), and additional bundle is added to the count to provide the correct number of sheets needed to be purchased allowing for the fractional part.

For roofs with different pitches, calculate each side ( roof -  area (one side) ) separately.
