Cooking Instructions
Preparing the Meatballs
- In a large bowl, mix ground beef, Italian sausage, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, chopped parsley, minced garlic, salt, pepper, milk, and eggs.
- Shape mixture into 1.5-inch meatballs.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet and brown the meatballs on all sides, or bake at 400°F (204°C) for 20–25 minutes.
Making the Sauce
- Heat olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.
- Add chopped onions and cook until soft, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in minced garlic and cook 30 seconds more.
- Add crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, and tomato sauce. Stir well.
- Pour in red wine (if using), and add basil, oregano, sugar, salt, and red pepper flakes.
- Simmer for 30–45 minutes. Add the meatballs and continue simmering for another 20–30 minutes.
Cooking the Pasta
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
- Add dry spaghetti and cook according to package instructions until al dente.
- Drain and toss lightly with olive oil to prevent sticking.
Serving
- Plate spaghetti, top with sauce and meatballs, and garnish with Parmesan and parsley if desired.
