Cooking Instructions
Preparing the Sauce
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add chopped onions and cook until soft. Add minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
- Add ground beef and Italian sausage. Cook until browned. Drain excess fat.
- Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, and tomato paste.
- Add basil, oregano, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Simmer on low for at least 30 minutes.
- Preparing the Ricotta Mixture
- In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese, egg, chopped parsley, and a small pinch of salt.
Preparing the Pasta
- Cook ziti in salted water until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- Assembling the Baked Ziti
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a greased baking dish, layer sauce, pasta, ricotta mixture, and mozzarella.
- Repeat layering. Top with mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
