UPDATED! The Units over Time calculator computes the number of units produced or consumed over a period of time based on the production or consumption rate and the duration of time.
INSTRUCTIONS: Choose units and enter the following:
- (R) Production Rate (e.g., 3 per second or 4.2 per week)
- (P) Period of Production or Consumption. (e.g. 29 days)
Number of Units (nU): The calculator returns the number of units produced or consumed over the period.
The Math / Science
Production and consumption of materials over time can be estimated or measured based on the average production or consumption rate of a unit. This calculator allows you to enter a rate that is processed (produced or consumed) in a standard period of time (P). With this calculator you can determine how many units are used, produced or consumed over a designated time (T).
The formula Units Produced or Consumed over Time is:
`nU = R * P`
where:
- nU = Units produced or consumed
- R = Rate of Production or Consumption
- P = Period of Production or Consumption
Examples
Production examples:
- Microchip company that produces 34 of a certain kind of microchip every hour (R). This calculator can tell you how many chips are produced in 36 hours (P). The answer is 1224 chips.
- Brewery that bottles 7200 bottles of beer every 24 hours shift (R). This calculator can tell you how many bottles are produced in an 8 hour shift (P). The answer is 2,400 bottles every 8 hour shift .
Consumption examples:
- College Dorm that uses 5,500 rolls of toilet paper every year (R). This calculator can tell you how much toilet paper is needed every month (P). The answer is 458.33 rolls of toilet paper per month.
- Hospital that uses 140 syringes of a certain size every week (R). This calculator can tell you how many are needed for resupply every three months (P). The answer is 1826 syringes every three months.
UNIT Production Calculators
The Production Calculator computes the cost in time or capital to buy, produce or consume commodities measured by number of units or by length, area, volume or weight. It provides automatic conversions between different units for time, length, area, volume, mass and up to date currency conversions between several international currencies.

Amdahl's Law: Computes the speedup factor for a total task based on the speedup factor of a portion of the task and the percent of that portion in relation to the total task.
- Cable dB Loss Budget - computes db loss based on length of fiber run and number of connectors.
- Propagation Delay - computes the delay between two routers based on their positions and a transfer rate.
- Nodal Delay - computes the nodal delay based on the queuing, processing, transmission and propagation delay.
- End to End Delay - computes the end to end delay based on the number of nodes and the processing, transmission, and propagation delay.
- RF Velocity of Propagation - computes the RF velocity based on the medium permittivity
- Transmission Delay - computes the delay based on length of packet and transmission rate.
- Data Transfer Time Calculator - computes the time to transfer an amount of data based on the data transfer rate.
