The Distance Between Two Points  calculator computes the linear distance between two points in a plane.

INSTRUCTIONS:  Enter the following:

• (X₁ , Y₁)  This is the X and Y values for point 1 (e.g.  3.3  5.6)
• (X₂ , Y₂)  This is the X and Y values for point 2. (e.g. 7.9  2.3)

Distance between Points (D): The calculator returns the distance between the points.  It assumes the units for the distance are the same units for the output.

The Math / Science

The formula for the mid-point between two points is:

       `MP = (  (X_1 - X_2)/2  , (Y_1 - Y_2)/2 )`

where:

• MP is the mid-point between the two points.
• X₁ is the x coordinate of point 1
• X₂ is the x coordinate of point 2
• Y₁ is the y coordinate of point 1
• Y₂ is the y coordinate of point 2
