The **Density from Mass and Volume** calculator computes the mean density (?) of an object based on its mass (M) and volume (V).

**INSTRUCTION:** Choose your preferred units and enter the following:

- (M) mass of the object
- (V) volume of the object

**Density(ρ)**: The calculator computes the mean density (**ρ**) of the object in kilograms per cubic meter. However, this can be automatically converted into other density units via the pull-down menu.

The formula for density is as follows:

where:

- ? is the density
- M is mass
- V is volume

Which is heavier, a ton of bricks or a ton of feathers? The foolish person reply "the bricks", but the answer is neither. They are the same weight (mass). HOWEVER, their **density** is wildly different, because the volume of space to contain a ton of feather is much bigger. Since volume is in the denominator of this equation, the density of the larger volume (feathers) is much smaller.
