The Tile Count for Area with Angled Bump-out calculator computes the number of ceramic tiles needed for an area with an angled bump-out based on the dimensions of the area tiles.
INSTRUCTIONS: Choose units and enter the following:
- (L) Area Length
- (W) Area Width
- (BW) Bump-out Opening Width
- (BN) Bump-out Back Width
- (BD) Bump-out Depth
- (TL) Tile Length
- (TW) Tile Width
- (SM) Safety Margin (percent added to estimate)
Tile Count (TC): The calculator returns the number of tiles required to cover the area. The calculator also returns:
- (A) Square Feet of Total Area in square feet
- (MA) Area of Main Floor in square feet
- (BA) Area of Bump-out in square feet
- (MS) Number of gallons of mastic needed.
- (MT) Number of gallons of premixed mortar needed.
The Math Science
This calculator computes the number of ceramic tiles as follows:
- computing the total area (length * width)
- dividing the total area by the unit dimension of the selected tile.
- the safety margin factor is applied (default 10% to account for partial cuts and broken tiles)
- the number is rounded up
The Mastic Range is the low to high range of mastic requirements for the area based on manufacturer recommendations that a gallon of mastic covers between 18 to 32 square feet per gallon. Instead of mastic, some use mortar. The Premix Mortar Range is the low and high range of gallons of premixed mortar needed based on a manufactures recommendation of 15 to 35 square feet per gallon of premixed mortar.

The Ceramic Tile Pricing table holds the history (survey) of the price of ceramic tiles in U.S. dollars surveyed from nationally advertised retailers (e.g. Lowe's, Menard's and Home Depot). The information in this table is updated every two months. This is a consumer based survey with no information or influence provided by the retail companies outside of that provided on their web sites.

- Tile Count for Area: This estimates the number of tile needed for an area based on the area dimensions and the size of the tile.
- Tile Count for Area with Angled Bump-out: This estimates the number of tile needed for an area with an angled bump-out based on the area dimensions and the size of the tile.
- Tile Count for Area with Squared Bump-out: This estimates the number of tile needed for an area with a squared bump-out based on the area dimensions and the size of the tile.
- Tile Price Comparison: This determines which box of tile covers the most area per dollar based on the size of tile, number of tile per box and price per box of tile.
- Irregular Tile Price Comparison: This determines which irregular tile covers the most area per dollar based on the area covered per tile and the unit price.
- Ceramic Tile Cost Estimator: This estimates the cost of tile for an area (rectangular) based on the size of area, size of tiles and unit cost of tiles.
- Tile Price per Square Foot: This computes the cost per square feet for a box of tile based on the cost of the box, the number of tile in the box and the size of the tile.
- Mastic Needed for Ceramic Tile: This estimates the number of gallons of mastic needed to apply ceramic tile to an area.
- Premix Mortar Needed for Ceramic Tile: This estimates the number of gallons of premixed mortar needed to apply ceramic tile to an area.
- Whole Tiles per Row: This computes the number of whole tiles in a row based on the length of row (e.g., wall or backsplash), the width of the tile and the thickness of the grout lines.
- Ceramic Tile Price Survey Tool: This lets one enter rows of length, width and price for tiles. It then returns the dollars per square feet, minimum, maximum, average (mean), and median of the tile price information entered.
