Junk Silver Value (JSV): The calculator returns the value of the junk silver in U.S. dollars. However this can be automatically converted to other currencies via the pull-down menu.
Junk Silver is comprised of U.S. silver coins with no numismatic value. These are often coins that are very worn and have lost any value outside of the silver content. These are U.S. coins with dates before 1964 when the U.S. Mint stamped its last coins with .9 silver content. The formula for the value of junk silver coins is:
`JSV = 0.715 * FV * SPOT`
where:
The Face Value is the sum of the face value of the coins. If the user had three(3) U.S. quarters and two (2) U.S. dimes, the Face Value would be 3* .25 + 2 *.10 = $.95
