There are several facts that you can assume when figuring out how much you need.
- On average a typical serving of baked beans is about a half of a cup. If your guests really love beans you can increase the serving size.
- The half cup measure holds true for most sides, you can apply it to potato salad, coleslaw, and just about any other side you might serve at your barbecue.
- This calculator adds 5% to the calculation so there is a little extra room for big eaters.

- Soak beans in water overnight, and drain before using.
- Fry bacon to crisp, but not burned and set aside.
- Put beans and water in sauce pan, and heat to a boil. Once boiling, reduce heat to a simmer for one hour.
- Preheat oven to 375° F
- Make the bean addition ingredients, by adding ketchup, maple syrup, brown sugar, molasses, Worchestershire sauce, salt, chili pepper and ground pepper into beans a separate bowl.
- Drain the beans, but keep the liquid.
- Crumble bacon.
- Put the beans into a casserole dish, and stir in the onions, crumbled bacon and the additional ingredients (previous bowl).
- Re-add the drained liquid to cover the mix by at least a quarter inch.
- Cover the dish and bake in preheated oven for ten minutes.
- Reduce heat to 200° F and cook for an additional six hours. (stir once or twice over the six hours)
