The Actual Head Rise calculator computes the actual head rise for a pump or fan based on the change in pressure, head and velocity and the density of the material flowing through the pump or fan.
INSTRUCTIONS: Choose units and enter the following:
- (p1) Pressure at point 1
- (p2) Pressure at point 2
- (ρ) Density of flowing material
- (h1) Head at point 1
- (h2) Head at point 2
- (v1) Velocity at point 1
- (v2) Velocity at point 2
Actual Head Rise (h): The calculator returns the rise in meters. However, this can be automatically converted to other length units via the pull-down menu.
The Math/Science
The formula for Actual Head Rise is:
`h = (p_2 - p_1)/(g*rho) + (h_2-h_1)+(v_2^2 -v_1^2)/(2*g)`
where:
- (p1) This is the pressure at point 1.
- (p2) This is the pressure at point 2.
- (ρ) This is the density of the flowing material.
- (g) This is the acceleration due to gravity.
- (h1) This is the head at point 1.
- (h2) This is the head at point 2.
- (v1) This is the velocity of at point 1.
- (v2) This is the velocity of at point 2.
