This calculator provides some equations that help a brick mason size a project and derive useful values for things like head joint or bed joint sizes. Equations are accessed from one of eight buttons
Calculator Buttons
- Standard Brick Height - this button button provides a look-up of a standard brick height for your choice of international brick size standard
- Standard Brick Length - this button button provides a look-up of a standard brick length for your choice of international brick size standard
- Bed Joint Decimal Width - this button allows you to pick a joint size from standard thicknesses of 1/4 inch through 1/2 inch and get as a result the corresponding decimal value in whatever length units you desire. For instance, if you select 3/8, the result displays as 0.375 in. And you can then select millimeters and the result displays as: 9.525 mm.
- Head Joint Decimal Width - this button allows you to pick a joint size from standard thicknesses of 1/4 inch through 3/4 inch and get as a result the corresponding decimal value in whatever length units you desire. For instance, if you select 3/8, the result displays as 0.375 in. And you can then select millimeters and the result displays as: 9.525 mm.
- Bricks Per Row - if you specify the length of a run of bricks, the chosen standard for brick size and the head joint head joint size and the equation returns the number of bricks you will need per row.
- Bricks High - if you specify the height of the wall and the chosen standard for brick size, the equation returns the number of rows of bricks that will cover the wall.
- Starting Cut Brick Length -if you select a joint size and a brick standard, this equation will compute the length of the first partial brick you should start the run with. This computes the length of the brick on the alternating rows that don;t start with a full brick.
- Wall Brick Count -if you give this equation the head joint size, select the brick size standard , and specify the wall's length and width, this equation will return the number of bricks required to cover the wall. This assumes no breakage in cut bricks.
Description
Head joint width, the thickness of the vertical joint between adjacent bricks is able to be wider than the bed joint. The max width considered useable is 3/4 inch for the head joint versus only 1/2 inch for the base joint. This is because making the bed joint thicker than this will adversely affect the strength of the wall.
The brick standards that are selectable in most of this calculator's equations are from the following list of standards and the dimensions are stored in the data set named "Brick Sizes":
- US Standard
- UK Standard
- Australia Standard
- South Africa Standard,
- King
- Queen
- Engineer
- Economy
- Jumbo
- Norman
- Norwegian
- Modular
