The **Downward Force** calculator * Lever with beam (x+y) and fulcrum.*computes the mass/weight (F) required that can lift an object with a lever and fulcrum.

**INSTRUCTIONS**: Choose units and enter the following:

**W**) The mass of the object being lifted opposite the fulcrum from the downward force (F). - (
**y**) The length of the beam on the downward force side of the fulcrum (see diagram). - (
**x**) The length of the beam on the object's side of the fulcrum (see diagram)

**Downward Force on a Lever (F)**: The calculator computes the mass/weight (F) in kilograms. However this can be automatically converted to other mass or weight units via the pull-down menu.

The formula for a lever is as follows: W • x = F • y

- Computes the required length of a beam above the fulcrum (y) for a lever to raise a weight (
**W**) based on the downward weight applied (**F**) and the length below the fulcrum (**x**). - Computes the weight (W) that can be lifted with a lever based on the length of the beam (
**y**) above the fulcrum, the length (**x**) below the fulcrum and downward weight applied (**F**). - Compute the length (x) from the object to the fulcrum needed in a lever to lift a weight (
**W**) with a downward force (**F**) with a beam of length (**L**), where L = x + y. - Compute the weight (F) needed to to raise the object with a lever.
