The Shingles for a Roof calculator computes the number of standard bundles of shingles (33.3 ft2 per bundle) needed to cover a roof based on the length and width of the area covered and the pitch. The formula works for gabled roofs (two sided) and single sided roofs (see diagram).  For gabled roofs, this formula is only accurate if the both gables have the same pitch, which puts the ridge in the middle. For roofs with different pitches, calculate each side separately.

Note: this does not currently include the double row of shingles at the roof edge.  Nor does it include ridge shingles.
