The Basket Dimensions Given Fabric Dimensions calculator computes the finished dimensions for a fabric basket give the length, width, and corner cutout for a piece of fabric.

INSTRUCTIONS: Choose units and enter the following:
- (a) = length of fabric
- (b) = width of fabric
- (c) = size of square cutout
- (sa) = seam allowance
Note: the width of your basket will be twice the size of your square cut out.
Basket Dimensions Given Fabric Dimensions (): The results are returns in units of inches. However, these can be automatically converted to compatible units via the pull-down menu.
Basket Making Directions with Loose Lining:
- Supplies
- 2 pieces of outer fabric cut to size a, b, and c
- 2 pieces of lining fabric cut to size a, b, and c
- 2 pieces of interfacing cut to size a, b, and c
- 2 pieces for handle
- Instructions
- Cut fabric, lining and interfacing based on dimensions a, b, and c
- Cut fabric for handle
- Attach interfacing to wrong side of outer fabric and handle
- with right sides together, sew outer fabric pieces together along the bottom (where cutouts are)
- press seam open and topstitch
- with right sides together, stitch outer fabric pieces together along side seams
- press seam open and topstitch
- box bottom (match bottom seam to side seam and stitch the diagonal)
- flip right side out
- attach handles to sides - equal distance from side seam - with 1/4" seam allowance
- REPEAT steps 4-8 for lining
- place outside fabric INTO lining (right sides together)
- sticth top leaving a gap to flip
- flip and topstich top edge
The Math / Science
The Basket Dimensions Given Fabric Dimensions equation computes the dimensions of a finished basket given the length, width, and size of square cutout.
length = a - 2c - 2sa
width = 2c
height = b - c - 2sa
