The Sand Tonnage calculator compute the tonnage of a volume of sand.Sand Truck.jpg Delivered Sand

INSTRUCTIONS: Choose your preferred units and enter the following:

  • (V) This is the volume of loose sand

The Sand Tonnage calculator computes the tons (U.S.) of loose sand.  Note the default mass / weight units returned are U.S. tons.  However, vCalc will automatically convert to other units via the pull-down menu.

Description

Sand is often delivered by the ton.  If one knows the volume of sand needed, this calculator will compute the tons of loose sand needed to roughly equal the volume require.  The formula uses the mean density (μD) of loose sand (1,442 kg/m3) in the following formula:

          Tonnage = Volume * μD

vCalc manages the correct unit conversions.
