The Radiated Seismic Energy  is  a measure of the energy converted during an earthquake. Potential energy is stored in the earth's crust in the form of built-up stress. During an earthquake, this energy is transformed and results in cracks and deformation in rocks, heat and radiated seismic energy. The following formula is used to calculate the radiated seismic energy: `E_s=M_0*1.6*10^(-5)`, where:

  • `M_0` = total amount of energy transformed during an earthquake
