One of our most popular calculators is our Taco Bar Calculator. A margarita calculator seemed like a logical companion for it so here it is.
Your typical margarita consists of 1 oz of tequila, 1/2 oz of Triple Sec (orange liquer), 1/2 oz of lime juice, a lime wedge, some salt for the rim, and ice to chill the glass and the mixture.
Recipes typically refer to amounts by 'parts'. One 'part' can be any amount as long as you use the same proportions for the other ingredients. For instance, The recipe for a margarita is one part, tequila and one half parts of triple sec and lime juice. You could use one ounce as the part to make a single drink or it could be one gallon to make a bunch. In that case one part would equal one gallon so you would use one gallon of tequila and 1/2 gallon each of triple sec and lime juice.
Typically you would put ice in your glasses to chill them while you are mixing the drinks. Once they are chilled you empty them, rub a lime wedge around the rim and roll the rim in salt. Then you mix your ingredients, shake them over ice, and strain them into the chilled glasses which have been salted. Garnish with a single wedge of lime.
Generally tequila and triple sec are sold in bottles of 750mL or about 25 fluid ounces.
You get 8 lime wedges from one lime.
