#### The Math / Science

Octal numbers are comprised of digits from zero to 7. The position of the digit indicates the exponent of eight added to the value, making Octal a base 8 number system

The first value in an octal number is multiplied by 8^{0} (1)

The second value in an octal number is multiplied by 8^{1} (8)

The third value in an octal number is multiplied by 8^{2} (64)

The forth value in an octal number is multiplied by 8^{3} (512), and so on.

In this way, the Octal number of 6017 is:

7• 8^{0} + 1• 8^{1} + 0 • 8^{2} + 6 • 2^{3} = 3087 in base 10 numbers which we commonly use.
