The How Many Bottles of Wine calculator computes number of bottles of wine are needed for a group based on the number of people and the duration of the event (dinner party, get together).

INSTRUCTIONS: Enter the following:

  • (P)  This is the number of people.
  • (H)  This is the number of hours of drinking.

Bottles of Wine (W): The calculator estimates the numbe of bottles of wine needed for the event.

The Math / Science

So you are going to through a party and need to figure out how many bottles of wine to buy.  This equation has you covered.

  • 187.5 ml Piccolo or Split:  Single Serving Bottle (used on airplanes)
  • 375 ml Demi or Half: Half of standard 750 ml.
  • 750 ml Standard: They typical size seen in liquor stores and wineries.
  • 1.5 L Magnum: Equal to two standard 750 ml bottles.
  • 3.0 L Double Magnum: Equal to four standard 750 ml bottles.
  • 4.5 L Jeroboam: Equal to six standard 750 ml bottles.
  • 6.0 L Imperial: Equal to eight standard 750 ml bottles.
  • 9.0 L Salmanazar: Equal to twelve standard 750 ml bottles.  Also equal to a full case of standard wine bottles.
  • 12.0 L Balthazar: Equal to sixteen standard 750 ml bottles.
  • 15.0 L Nebuchadnezzar: Equal to twenty standard 750 ml bottles.
