Joint compound, also known as drywall mud, is a white, paste-like material used to finish drywall installations. Joint compound is primarily used for:

• Covering screw or nail holes
• Covering taped seams between drywall panels and corners
• Smoothing surfaces before painting
• Texturing walls or ceilings

Types of Joint Compound:

• Pre-Mixed – Comes ready to use in buckets and requires minimal preparation.
• Powdered (Setting-Type) – Needs to be mixed with water and dries through a chemical reaction, making it faster and more durable.

Joint compound is usually applied in thin layers using a drywall knife (shown above) and sanded smooth after drying.
