The Skydiving Altitude equation approximates the altitude after jumping from a base altitude (b) after a period of time (t).

INSTRUCTIONS:  Choose units and enter the following:

• (b) Base altitude (e.g. 10,000 meters)
• (s) Time of fall (e.g. 7 seconds)

Skydiving Altitude (y): The calculator returns the altitude in meters.  However, seconds can be automatically converted into other length units via the pull-down menu.

The Math / Science

 The formula for the Skydiving Altitude is:

 `y=10000 m - 50 m/s[t+(5.0 s)e^(-t/5.0 s)]`

where:

• y = Skydiving Altitude
• b = base altitude
• t = time of fall
